If you’re not looking for Siri or don’t use HomeKit, there’s a vast array of speakers, which support AirPlay, that could can purchase, from the likes of Devialet, Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, Bang & Olufsen, and more. We’ll need to wait for AirPlay 2 support from competing products (the HomePod doesn’t have it either at the moment), but for people who don’t need a digital assistant and want more versatility (e.g. Spotify), there are many interesting options out there that range from 100 to many thousands of dollars.

I’m mentioning this because ‘everyone’ keeps on saying how the HomePod doesn’t really compete with Amazon’s Echo and Google’s Home, but they fail to include any comparisons or even acknowledge the existence of more traditional solutions to listening to music or audio.

I often stream music from my iPhone to a Bluetooth speaker when at home. I keep on wondering if the HomePod, since it should have access to my account, will takeover the AirPlay stream if I want it to. That would be preferable — if I leave, the HomePod can just keep on playing if my family is home.

My sister ordered this official (and priceless) Star Wars doormat for me over one and a half years ago. It finally arrived last week!

I love it!

I’m up. I think I’m alive, more or less. Hope your New Year’s was as good as mine!

Happy 2018!

I wish the iPad had 3D Touch just to make positioning the cursor as easy as on the iPhone.

The 2017 Amazon Echo Show looks like what people thought the future would look like in 1980. In 2007, the iPhone was the future.

I listen to so many podcasts, that I’d prefer some of them to be daily shows. @ATPfm and @TheTalkShow come to mind first. At the same time, I probably should publish our podcast more often…

I’m so tempted to move away from WordPress to Ghost or Nanoc. Both are enticing, but then I remember that many things come for free with WP…

This is a test post; please disregard this unless you are Don Melton

Mobile Safari seems to have an issue with my CSS. Quite frankly, it’s probably an issue with my CSS, not Safari, but I’m too stupid to find the solution.

Hello Don. It’s simply amazing to be halfway around the world and have a conversation with the guy who created Safari transcodes stuff.

I just added this paragraph, with a grey background, and a link, just to make it easier to test.

The paragraph above should have the same font size as the others. It doesn’t on iPhone’s Mobile Safari. Fine on iPad and in desktop Safari, in the responsive design tool.

I finally got around to getting rid of the Permalink ★ links from below each post and hiding them under the date, just below the titles. This small change made the layout just a bit cleaner, but it has made me a lot happier.

I spent the morning tweaking the design of the site. Instead of targeting the system fonts for various operating systems, I decided to add one font instead — Titillium Web from Google. I’m not a fan of loading external fonts since they increase load times, but this does give me greater control over the look of the site.

I need to finally fix the mobile menu — not happy with the current design. One day…

Currently working on de-centering the titles, dates, various other items, and perhaps changing the font too. I simply got bored with the old design. Please let me know if you find any bugs.

We’re binge watching Mad Men and things have been a bit slow recently, as my wife noted today (we’re on season 3), so naturally one of Sterling Cooper’s employees had a meeting with a lawnmower.

Love this show.

Surprising morning — Twitter appears to be down from my location, but fine when I VPNed myself to the UK. This hasn’t happened in a long time. I went to Micro.blog instead, but found that my timeline is a bit short. Discovered a cool iOS trick while editing this post though!

I’ve been paying more and more attention recently to the elegant and beautiful Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. Alfa is finally doing what’s right and what I’ve always wanted in a car — great style and rear wheel drive (AWD optionally).

Saw this amazing villa while taking a walk — stunning colour choices. Completely in love with it.

OK, so here’s a quick summary of what I did: instead of using WordPress as my back-end, I set up a plugin called WPeMatico which pulls posts from my moridin.micro.blog feed and then posts everything as new posts on my site. Automatically.

May 3, 2017 · 01:33

I felt I wasn’t getting everything out of Micro.blog when using it in conjunction with WordPress as its back-end. Decided to try out the experience that Manton Reece envisioned, so here I am… testing everything.

April 30, 2017 · 21:26

I’m still trying to figure out all the Micro.blog stuff needed to correctly configure it for WordPress as its back-end. Currently trying to decide if I need cross-posting or not, since WordPress can do that for me.

I’m looking for a Husky puppy to adopt — I’ve always wanted one. I miss the time I spent with my Chow Chow, who died 10 or so years ago.

April 27, 2017 · 09:34

I received my Micro.blog invite last night, so naturally I quickly registered my username. Testing its functionality and trying to configure it now.

March 19, 2017 · 13:40

Just got back from our vacation, and as I sat down, I realised that I didn’t have to use my iPhone. iPad! Missed you so much!

March 16, 2017 · 16:52

I love Twitter, but if anything happens to it, I will lose all my tweets — I’m still waiting for my archive, which I ‘ordered’ many months ago — so I’m considering microblogging here on Infinite Diaries instead. My inspiration for this post format comes from Manton Reece of course.
